Volunteer Reading Help

Here at Badger we are committed to try and improve literacy levels across the country and one key learning resource is our Badger Hi-Lo readers. We are delighted that Volunteer Reading Help are happy to support and recommend Badger Learning’s - First and Full Flight Hi-Lo readers.
News from Volunteer Reading Help:
1 in 5 children in Britain left primary school in 2010 with a below average literacy level for their age. Volunteer Reading Help works to help primary school children who are finding reading a challenge by working with schools to provide one to one literacy support through trained Volunteer Reading Helpers.
Our reading helpers find that the Badger Learning Hi-Lo readers are an excellent resource for engaging reluctant readers, the subject matter is spot on for 8-13 year old children who have a reading age of between 7.5 and 8, while the varied genres of fiction, nonfiction, poetry and play scripts keep even the most reluctant reader engaged.
‘A range of genres gives the children we work with a wider choice and play scripts are one of the most requested types of book by our reading helpers and are great for paired reading with reluctant readers”
Julie Nixon, Director of Services, Volunteer Reading Helper.

Write a Full Flight Story
|
|
We are delighted to announce that Richard Taylor is the winner of the competition that has been running in order to find a new author for Full Flight. Richard, a teacher, with experience of teaching Reluctant Readers, had used Full Flight books in his classroom. Our editors thought his story was not only the best story but it was perfect for Full Flight and more importantly for the readers. Can Phil Lewis climb the walls of the Houses of Parliament to stop the Stone Beasts and save the Prime Minister (hmm how apt?).
Is this the start of a new writing career? Jonny Zucker, author and editor of Full Flight, went to see Richard at his school, Alexandra Park School in North London, to show him how the book was coming on and also to present his prize - a £350 publishing contract.

From Left to Right: Richard Taylor, Kyle Ritchie-Williams, Daniel Turner, Louis Whalley, Jonny Zucker, (front row left to right) Hatice Fetti, Nikita Po, Halil Gilgil, Daniel Rigby.
